AI does the building. The kid does the design.
The making got cheap. What's left — and what school never taught — is design: noticing a real problem, deciding what to make, knowing what it should feel like, and seeing what's wrong with it. That's the human element, and it's the whole skill now. So that's what every move below trains.
It starts in a journal
Every kid gets a real notebook. Before anything is built, they write what they notice and draw what they want — by hand, like Leonardo's notebooks. The journal is their seed; the build grows from it. A drawing they made is theirs in a way a screen never is.
They direct, judge, and fix
The kid says what they want; the coach + AI build it; the kid judges it — “what's right? what's missing?” When it breaks, that's the best moment: a real problem they care about, explained at their level. They learn by fixing real things, not worksheets.
The thinking is analog. The making is assisted.
The crisis is kids being handed answers by a screen — so in a SPARK room, the kid's thinking never touches one. They notice, interview, map, decide, and sketch with pen, paper, and people. The coach uses AI to turn their idea into something real, fast. The only screen in the room is the coach's.
The first thing a kid makes is physical — cardboard, paper, a real object. Building it by hand is the thinking; the resistance is the lesson.
We don't start with reading or math — we rebuild the thing underneath: staying on one hard thing, with no screen to escape to. The win we measure is whether the kid stayed.
AI amplifies a kid who's already done the thinking — never a substitute for it. Assist the second build, never the first.

Making it isn't the finish line. It's the first draft.
